Dear Diary,

Yesterday was an amazing day and very touching day. Barack and I started out by visiting the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, VA in order to pay our respects to the many brave men and women who have served our country. It was so emotionally moving that Barack and I simply could not speak. There are so many soldiers being honored there, I could feel all my emotions welling from within at the thought of all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country. I can’t help but know that it is not only for the American men and women here today, but those who have passed on as well.

Following that emotional event, Barack and I went to the Lincoln Memorial, which was awe-inspiring, to say the least. Anyone there could sense the excitement, the emotion, the communal togetherness. I bet even those watching the event on television could sense the energy in an around that mall. I gave an amazing speech that was more of a tribute to the working people of America, reminding them that they’re truly our backbone during these times. That the dignity of the world they do on a daily basis is so inspiring, I had to take the time to say thank you.

Then, to kick off the concert, Bruce Springsteen broke out playing “The Rising,” with an entire gospel choir backing him up. The sound was amazing, although I can imagine it may have been difficult for all there to hear him. From then on, we heard Sheryl Crow, will.i.am, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Shakira, and U2. In addition, Tom Hanks, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, and Tiger Woods made some very touching remarks.

Perhaps the most captivating moment of all occurred when Barack gave a very poignant speech talking about how this is really a celebration of American renewal, and that our country will endure, despite these hard times! I was so moved and so inspired, I’m positive the audience was as well.

But I must get some sleep now, as tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day, and I’m sure there will be much going on to celebrate and reflect.
